Quick answer
Learn how external monitoring can check websites and services without installing an agent on the monitored server.
What agentless monitoring means
Agentless monitoring observes a service from outside. Instead of installing a local daemon, the monitoring platform makes requests to the URL, port, or heartbeat endpoint you define.
Why teams prefer the model
Agentless checks can be quick to deploy and avoid adding another process with operating-system privileges to production hosts. They are especially useful when the main requirement is availability from the customer-facing side.
Where agentless monitoring fits
HTTP and API checks work naturally from outside. TCP checks can verify service reachability. Heartbeats can monitor background jobs that send a completion signal outward.
What agentless monitoring cannot replace
External checks do not replace logs, tracing, host metrics, or deep application telemetry. They answer a different question: can an important service boundary be reached and does it behave as expected from outside?
